Workshop paper presented at the ICML 2021 Workshop on Human-AI Collaboration in Sequential Decision-Making. It examines shared autonomy agents that improve a human’s performance while constraining how often they intervene, so that assistance does not degrade the user’s experience, and proposes model-free reinforcement learning methods that account for hard and soft constraints on the number of interventions. The extended version appeared at AAAI 2022 as On Optimizing Interventions in Shared Autonomy.
